Engage needs data to run, and excels in the simplicity of which you can provide data to the platform. When you install Engage, you will need to add some code to your site.
Start by adding the code that sends messages to Engage with event data. This is data that holds information about whats going on on your website. It can be when a customer adds a product to cart, when a purchase is made, when a customer signs up for a subscription or when a visitor looks at the pricing page. You can collect any data this way, but we have defined some information Engage requires to run well.
In addition to the code that provides Engage with event data you also have the option to send master data (products, categories and settings) and transactional data (orders) using the APIs provided by Engage. This is optional but enables additional features on the platform.
This guide will walk you through installing and setting up Engage. A basic installation is typically completed within 30-45 minutes.
To follow this tutorial you need to have an account with us, and your Engage API key. If you haven't already, complete the following steps before you begin.
To get running with Engage, you will need to activate the flow of data. Below are the listed sources to be considered.
This is the core component of Engage used to collect information about your visitors and customers, and the actions they take on your website. The Javascript Tracker is enabled by default in Engage, so you don't have to add any source to start using this.
Use the server-side tracker when Javascript isn't a viable option for you. The Server-side Tracker is enabled by default in Engage, so you don't have to add any source to start using this.
Many merchants already maintain a Google Product Feed. If you do, we recommend you use that to provide product data.

Click the Google Product Feed
and follow the instructions
Another way to provide product data is to use the Engage Product Catalog API.
Go to Data Platform > Integrations
Select the All sources tab
Click the Product Catalog API
and follow the instructions
Order data is not required for all features of the Engage platform, but we strongly recommend you provide order data as it enhance most features and have a few standalone features based on the order data.
Unless you're using one of the platform plugins we've made available for the major e-commerce platforms, you need to send order data to Engage using the Order History API.

The Facebook Marketing API lets Engage communicate and send data to Facebook (Meta). Use it to send custom audiences that are frequently updated to be as efficient and useful as possible.
The Marketing API allows you to build target Custom Audiences from customer, or visitor, information collected by Engage. This has become increasingly important as third party data collection has been, and will continue to be, heavily restricted across most browsers.
Use your own data to improve your marketing and target the correct audience with the right message. Engage keeps your audiences up to date to enable marketers to serve more relevant ads. For example, you may want to target customers that recently made a purchase with one specific ad, and then with a different one when that customer has re-visited your store. You can build out audiences that follows your customer journey and serve ads to them based on where in the journey they currently resides. And when they perform an action Engage will automatically move them to another audience.

The Engage platform destinations are third party applications and databases that receive data from Engage. Some destinations receive data using live streams directly from our core tracker, while other destinations receive batch data sent on a set interval from Engage.
Live stream destinations are generally third party applications that consume event data such as conversions, signups or other actions taken on your website. Setup your Engage tracking once, and send the data to all your third party apps consuming event data using our destinations.
The following live stream destinations are currently available:
Batch data destinations are storage destinations like databases or blob storage. These destinations receive data on a scheduled interval and can include enriched data from Engage machine learning features, such as customer traits and characteristics. Use these destinations to setup your own data warehouse from which you can then connect BI and analytics tools to further explore your data.
The following batch data destinations are currently available (contact us to use them):

This is our official Prestashop module that connects Engage with your store. This module takes care of all setup needed to use Engage with Prestashop.
Engage connects to your store using a plugin to implement an event tracker and to open an API connection to your store. The API connection is used to retrieve store data to the Engage platform and the tracker send us event based data from the actions taken in your store.
In Engage, we process your data, clean it and make it ready for use. We then start to build the analytics datasets, the recommendation models, search index, etc. As we complete these tasks the data becomes available in our platform for you to use.
In Prestashop, the recommendations are served backend using the plugin. If the recommendation call fails, for any reason, the recommendations fails silently not showing any error on the page. This is important to ensure a good customer experience.
Sometimes it is handy to serve recommendations using javascript instead. Engage let you serve recommendations via the tracker script on any page that includes the tracker script.
After the installation you will be asked, form within the module, to provide an API key.
Deactivate, or uninstall the plugin to stop using our services. If you have a paid plan you wish to cancel you must do so on the Engage platform. Simply login and go to subscriptions to cancel your plan.
Engage connects to your store using the standard Wikingruppen API to retrieve current and historical data to the Engage platform. In addition an event tracker is required to gather actions taken by the users in your store. These events are used in analytics and product recommendations to improve the insights and personalization capabilities.

Wikingruppen is a Single Page Application (SPA) platform, which requires the implementation of the tracker to be done manually. We have prebuilt a template to capture all the required events out-of-the-box. And often there is no additional work required to get started. Adding custom events will however require manual procedures.
Recommendations are delivered using javascript and are fully customizable.
First step is to create an account with us. Then select Wikingruppen as the first source to use and follow the on screen instructions.
Engage is installed by providing an API key for us to use to connect to your store. Then you place the tracker code in the header section of Wikingruppen.

All functionality in engage requires data. In some cases it takes a while to gather the data needed to purposefully use a function. When that happens we display a notification to inform you that the data requirements are not yet met for the particular function.
Ensure the active data source is capturing the data required for the function. The javascript source is able to capture all required data for you, but it requires that you have defined the events needed, and it takes a while to gather enough data for some functions.
If you instead use the API, these may not supply the required data for the given function. In that case you can add the javascript source in addition to the APIs.
If you are using one of the plugins you already have both the APIs and the javascript source installed automatically, but you may need to add particular javascript events that aren't captured by the plugin by default.

All event tracking is done using an async javascript code snippet that gathers the information and push it to our servers where it is stored for you. The tracker is built to never interfere with your sites performance or functionality. It will fail silently in the event something would go wrong and it will queue up messages when it's not able to send them right away.
The setup is pretty straight forward. To initialize the tracker, add the following code to your page header.
The following two events are required in order to run product recommendations.
This feature requires one of the following sources to be active
For certain events, such as the order completion event, we de-identify the personal information as soon as it arrives to our servers using Googles enterprise grade Data Loss Prevention-solution. You can read more about the Google Data Loss Prevention , but in a nut shell it encrypts the data rendering it non-readable and non-identifiable.
All done! Now you can start tracking events using the zlt.track();
function. You may specify custom events for tracking, but for ecommerce clients we recommend that you get started with the ones described in the section first.

This event should fire when the product page of a specific product is viewed.
Register this event when a product is visibly displayed for the visitor on pages that isn't the particular products designated product page. E.g. in search results, start page or category listings.
Visitors are anonymously tracked using session ids throughout your site. But when visitors identify themselves at login, signup or checkout, you may pair a session id with a user to identify the entire chain of events one user has carried out over time.
The user_id should be a unique identifier. It can be an email address or any other identifier of choice.
Engage Identities let you build enhanced and unified user profiles based on your customer or website visitor data. An Engage Identity represents a single view of your user and holds traits based on events, actions, customer data or custom data. Build and activate powerful custom audiences across your marketing tools.
Identities are based on user data tracked and collected from your site using the Engage Tracker. The profiles are then enhanced with customer data and other event based data as the user interacts with your business. Identities are also merged when identified across multiple channels, sessions or devices to provide a single view of the user base.
Resolve and unify your visitor identities regardless of when, or what channel they used to visit your site. Avoid maintaining multiple records for the same user and connect external IDs used on various platforms to one Engage Identity.
Identities use customer data such as location, preferred currency and order data to compute customer traits that can be used to segment a group of customers.
Visitor data is any event based data gathered from the visitors actions on your site. Data such as what pages/products was viewed or added to cart, actions taken on site such as sign up for newsletter, request for quotation, etc. All events are later added to the user identity for use in further analysis and segmentation.
Engage derives useful traits such as customer life cycles, predicted gender and lifetime value to enable narrow, specific user segmentation for use in highly personalized marketing.
Create lists of users that match conditions or criteria defined by you. Then activate your user list within Engage or push them to marketing tools for personalized advertisement. User lists can be built using events, smart traits and more.
Engage audiences are lists of site visitors that haven't necessarily become customers yet. Often these visitors are anonymous or identified via external ids, login, newsletter signup or other forms where the user fill out an email address or other identifier. Audiences are defined mainly based on actions taken on the site, such as users who added a product to cart but did not checkout or a user browsed pricing but did not sign up for a subscription. A lot more filters and conditions can be defined in the audience builder.
Customer segments allow you to create customer cohorts based on various events and characteristics of the customers. Segments are then kept up-to-date automatically by Engage and you may use them in analytics and reports on Engage or sync them to your marketing tools.
Customers expects a personalized experience when visiting e-commerce stores today. Identities enables hyper-personalized solutions to meet these expectations from the customer.
Help your visitors keep track and easily find what products they've already browsed using recently viewed products. Or greet your returning visitors with a block helping them to pick up where they left off, or to re-order the products they bought last time.
Identities is a key concept in Engage and is widely used throughout the platform. Identities are used for key features such as , , and ,

Engage offer a wide range of solutions to boost the conversion rate and average order value for merchants. Recommendations can be tailored to the requirements of the merchant and are designed to seamlessly integrate with the store.
Customer segmentation is the process of dividing a customer base into smaller groups based on shared characteristics, such as demographics, interests, behaviors, or needs. The goal of customer segmentation is to better understand and target specific groups of customers, and to tailor marketing efforts and products to these groups in a more personalized and effective way.
Ad networks often let you create segments based on demography, geolocation and interests. Engage lets you build segments based on granular events and visitor activities, such as products viewed or added to cart, videos played or forms submitted. Tailor the segment for which you like to run marketing campaigns and keep them updated during the entire campaign.
Keep your segments in sync and optimize your ROAS (Return On Ad Spend) using up to date segments in your campaigns. Engage let you define very specific segments for narrow targeting, but this often means that a customer should be in that segment only from the moment one event is taken and only up to the moment the next event action is performed. Hence, we need to be able to update segments automatically as new events occurs.
Similar to above, Engage also enables suppression of individual customers as actions are performed. Typical examples are to stop showing advertisement to a customer that performed a purchase, or to stop tracking a user that declined the cookie consent popup. All of which are made possible with our automated segment synchronization feature.
Due to Apple's iOS 14 update, GDPR, CCPA and other privacy regulations, platforms like Meta (Facebook) and Google are changing how they collect and store data. This has a negative impact on the audience match rates on those platforms. In short, this means that for example the data collected from the Pixel is now less likely to be usable to match the user to a Facebook user, which in turn makes it harder to target that user.
Using first party data (collected via Engage) we can send segments to the ads networks with more, better and more reliable data for the network to use to match it to its users. The result is better audience matching, more targeted campaigns and higher ROAS.

The initial part of the customer report is intended to give the user a quick overview of their customers. Here it is possible to find statistics covering the number of new customers that has been acquired during the selected timeframe, the AOV and revenue per customer, the repurchase rate etc.
Returning customers is crucial for a business's long-term success. They provide a reliable source of revenue, cost less to acquire, and offer valuable insights that can help businesses grow and improve. Hence keeping track for the ratio between new and returning customer is one of the key metrics to follow
Tracking customer acquisition is critical for optimizing marketing and sales efforts, improving customer experience and retention, and forecasting revenue. By analyzing customer acquisition data, businesses can make data-driven decisions that lead to increased conversions, revenue, and customer satisfaction.
Customer lifetime value (CLV) is a metric that represents the total amount of revenue a customer is expected to generate for a business over their lifetime. It takes into account factors such as the customer's purchase history, frequency of purchases, and average order value. CLV is an important metric because it can help businesses make strategic decisions around marketing, customer acquisition, and retention. By understanding the value of each customer, businesses can optimize their efforts to increase customer retention, cross-sell and up-sell products, and acquire new customers who are likely to have a high lifetime value.

The standard reports are all delivered out of the box and does not need any additional configuration from a customer perspective expcept the process of connecting Engage to the store.
Target the right customer with the right message at the right time.
Create granular audiences targeted for specific events or actions and have them automatically updated to maintain a relevant audience for the campaign. The Sync an audience
action is designed to effortlessly keep audiences updated at various destinations.
Create a Sync an audience
action in three simple steps
Select the audience or segment you wish to sync and select if it should kept in sync or if new members should be appended building an ever growing list of users.
Select the destinations to send the audience to. Note that you need to activate each of the destinations on the integrations page before you can use them in actions.
Decide if the audience should be kept in sync, or only sent once. For most use cases we recommend keeping the audience in sync at all time.
That's it! Save your action and it will automatically start to send the audiences to their destinations.
Engage actively collect event and user data that is sent to the destinations continuously. Destinations have different requirements on how often an audience can be updated and the update interval varies between 1 to 6 hours. Hence, Engage will at minimum update an audience 4 times during a 24h period.
When destinations receive audiences they use this data to match the visitors with their known visitors in order to improve targeting and customer segmentation on their platforms.
Not all your visitors can be sent to every destination for audiences. Some destinations requires e-mail addresses, while other can utilize an external ID to maintain an audience. Engage automatically filter out visitors to be sent to each destination as the audience is sent based on the requirement of the destination.
An audience (User list) in Google Ads will have the size 0 until it gets larger than 1.000 matched customers. This is good to keep in mind when looking at the user lists in Google Ads.
It takes 24 - 48 hours for Google Analytics to populate a new Custom Dimension after it's been created.
Meta Requires and audience of at least 5.000 users to use the audience in advertisements.
The data retention period for external ids are 90 days. So, syncing an audience for longer than 90 days when relying on the external id will drop matches made only on this identifier.
The available models for personalized recommendations using Engage is continuously growing and new models will be documented here as they become generally available. If you need something currently not covered here, reach out directly to us for support to arrange that.

While all models require data, our models are developed to perform well even when data is sparse or insufficient. This can happen when new products are introduced, a merchant recently opened shop, or because of data loss when moving shops between platforms. Regardless of why there is a data shortage our models can for example aggregate data to create recommendations on an aggregated, a bit less granular level until there is a sufficient amount of data available. Other models can run solely on for example product data and thereby runs well with basic catalog data.
This model uses historical data to derive purchase patterns and relate them to users and items to predict what any given user is likely to be interested in based on browsing pattern and purchase history (when available). This model is generally great on cart pages, product pages or at checkout.
The similarity model is useful to display visually, textually or contextually similar products, like clothes or accessories. The model is commonly used on product detail pages to help the visitor find the product they are looking for. The model is not as data intense as other models since it mainly rely on product data. This model generally increase conversion and decrease bounce rates on the product page when visitors are coming directly to a product page from an external source, such as ads.
Engage introduce two attribution models, one data driven model that distributes the attribution across all involved sources and one last touch model that attributes the entire conversion to the last touch point.
Use UTM parameters
As many ads are served in apps nowadays it is hard to properly attribute them if UTM parameters are missing on the ad URLs. E.g. Tik tok ads without UTM parameters cannot be tracked by Engage.

Personalized Landing Pages is a solution that helps merchants to automatically turn their product pages into landing pages for ads traffic when visitors arrives from ads networks. The idea to use landing pages for better conversion rates on ads is not new, and most marketers already utilize landing pages in general when running advertisements. But for merchants and store owners it quickly becomes resource draining to maintain landing pages for each product they advertise and to maintain separate shopping feeds and product lists for the ads networks.
Engage solves this by utilizing it's AI-powered product recommendations to automatically transform the product page to a landing page. Essentially, the solution displays additional products carefully selected to improve the likelihood of putting the right product in front of the right customer.
Displaying additional products on a landing page when entering from an ads network have several benefits.
Firstly, it increases the chance of a sale by showing customers other relevant products that they might be interested in, which creates an opportunity for both cross-selling and upselling. By showing related or complementary products, businesses can encourage customers to purchase additional items or upgrade their selection, which can increase the average order value and boost revenue. It's also used to display a variety of products to help increase brand awareness which will build a stronger brand identity and reputation, leading to increased customer loyalty.
Secondly, it helps to create a more engaging user experience by showing customers a wider range of products. This helps to build trust and credibility with the customer, and increase the likelihood of repeat business in the future at the same time as it will reduce bounce rate since visitors are more likely to find something that they like. Hence, spending more time in the store.
Finally, it will help to improve the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns. By showing customers more options, you can increase the chances that the visitor will find something they like, and ultimately convert into a sale. This helps to improve your conversion rates and ROAS, making your advertising campaigns more efficient.
Overall, displaying additional products on a landing page when entering from an ads network helps to increase sales, improve the user experience, reduce bounce rate and enhance the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns.
Engage runs on a number of AI models that can be combined and used in combination with other, non-smart, models to design almost any type of product recommendation. For landing pages recommendations we offer the following models,

A product recommendation block is a front end visual display of a set of products, linked to a back end AI-powered recommendation model that derives the actual products to display. Using blocks we enable multiple use of each model and you can run different recommendations, with different designs and various settings.
When a merchant deploys product recommendations from Engage, they first create a block that holds the configuration of the recommendations they want to use. The configuration controls:
What type of recommendation to use
The recommendation block design
When to display the recommendation block
What rules, logic and filters to apply
The recommendation block design can be fully customized to your needs. In most cases the available design settings within the block is enough to create a visually compelling set of recommendations. The following design settings are available:

Boost your revenue and AOV with AI-powered Product recommendations. Not only do recommendations solve the task of putting the right product in front of the right customer, but it also improves the store navigation for customers browsing things they are, or could be, interested in. Our recommendations drive an increase in AOV and revenue that is often noticeable within a few weeks, along with increase in engagement and time spent in the store.
Customers that interacts with smart product recommendations are more likely to convert, and spend more on average.
Product recommendations drive additional revenue through a smart, non-intrusive, way to introduce products that are likely to be of interest to the visitor. It allows merchants to showcase more of their product catalog to their visitors and the personalized touch increase the customer experience.
Engage runs on a number of AI models that can be combined and used in combination with other, non-smart, models to design almost any type of product recommendation. Use our solution to:
Display products that are similar in context. Our AI selects the products that are relevant, and similar, to each other.
Display products that are likely to sell together. Based on customers browsing and purchase history, our AI recommends products that the visitor is likely to buy.
Display products that are visually similar. Our AI index your product catalog based on visual similarity and derives the ones that are most similar.
Display recently viewed products, either during the current session or when the visitor returns to your store.
Display a set of products derived through logic and rules, and sort them based on what is most likely to sell, did sell most in the past or are most similar.
Product recommendations are perfectly suited for automation. Not only is it tedious work to select products for cross sell and up sell, the performance of manual product recommendations are generally worse than the automated ones that are based on actual data. Furthermore, the update frequency is constrained using a manual update approach whereas automated recommendations can be updated according to events in the store.
Our product recommendation solution utilize our tracking system to capture and measure the effectiveness of the recommendations. See how your models perform and follow the improvements over time. We measure and report on:

The data requirements varies depending on the type of product recommendation. Product similarity models generally only requires product data, while any recommendations based on behavioural data requires that to be available.
Engage integrates to major e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce and Prestashop. Which makes it easy to share the data required. In addition, you may share data using our APIs, a Google Product Feed or any of the other listed source integrations.
A common question we get is how much data is required to run proper recommendations. And in most cases we can get started right away with only the data available via the integrations. Behavioural based models improve with more data, but this can be added along the way. For similarity models, the product data is typically enough to get off to a good start.

Analyzing sales data on a weekday basis can provide valuable insights into the patterns of customer behavior and purchasing habits. Below are a couple of examples why you might want to consider to use this analysis:
Optimize marketing strategies: Knowing which days of the week are busiest can also help you optimize your marketing strategies. You can use this data to schedule promotional campaigns on days that typically see lower sales, or adjust your ad spending to target customers on the days when they are most likely to make a purchase.
Understand customer behavior: By analyzing sales data by weekday, you can gain insights into customer behavior patterns. For example, you might notice that customers tend to make larger purchases on weekends or that they are more likely to browse on weekdays. This information can help you adjust your website design and user experience to better meet your customers' needs.
Optimize inventory and fulfillment: By analyzing sales data by weekday, you can determine which days of the week are busiest and adjust your inventory and fulfillment processes accordingly. For example, if you notice that Mondays are consistently busy, you might want to schedule extra staff to handle order processing and shipping on those days.
Improve customer service: Understanding which days of the week are busiest can also help you anticipate and manage customer service needs. For example, you might want to schedule extra staff to handle customer inquiries and support on busier days, or adjust your support hours to better align with when customers are most active on your site.
Aggregating sales data on an hourly basis will provide valuable insights into customer behavior and purchasing habits. Below are some use cases listed.
Understand trends and patterns: Looking at sales data over time can help you identify trends and patterns in customer behavior at different times of the day. For example, you might notice that sales tend to be higher in the morning or in the evening, or that certain products sell better at certain times of the day. By understanding these patterns, you can adjust your marketing and promotional strategies to better target your customers and drive sales.
Compare performance across different times: Aggregating sales data on an hourly basis also makes it easy to compare performance across different hours of the day. This can help you identify areas of improvement and adjust your sales and marketing strategies accordingly.
Optimize pricing and promotions: By understanding when customers are most likely to make a purchase, you can adjust your pricing and promotional strategies to better target those times. For example, you might offer a time-limited discount during a slow period of the day to encourage more purchases.
Identify peak sales hours: By aggregating sales data on an hourly basis, you can quickly see which hours of the day are the busiest and which are the slowest. This can help you plan staffing and inventory levels accordingly, so you can optimize your resources and avoid over or under-staffing during certain hours.
Overall, aggregating sales data on an daily or hourly basis can provide valuable insights into your ecommerce business and help you make data-driven decisions to improve sales and customer satisfaction.

For customers running with product recommendation a analytics report is available. This report is designed to give an overview of the performance of the recommendations by presenting some of the key metrics. In the report the customer will be able to see,
From this metric the customer can track the number of recommendations used on a monthly basis and how the number varies over time. The numbers breaks down into the usage per block and model and will first of all serves as the basis for other metrics but also to confirm that the correct package of recommendations have been purchased.
Measures the number of interactions/clicks with the recommendations. This number should be compared to the number of recommendations served to understand the interaction rate. The number breaks down into a block and model level, enabling the customer to gain insights around their customer's interests in different types of recommendations on various types of pages.
One of the most important measurements when it discussing performance of the recommendations since it tracks the value of sales that happens after interaction with one or more recommendations. This metric breaks down into a block and model level enabling the customer to understand the performance on a more granular level and to take action on blocks/models not performing as well as others.
One of the most important metrics within ecommerce businesses is the conversation rate since it confirms that the driven traffic generate sales. In the perspective of product recommendations the actual conversion rate is not the interesting number, rather than the impact that recommendations has on this number. This is measured by comparing the conversion rate of sessions interacting with recommendations to the overall conversion rate. A higher conversation rate for visitors interacting with the recommendations proves that users are presented with products they like. A lower conversation value should be seen as a signal to further investigate the recommendation model to be used.
Another important metric within ecommerce is the repurchase rate. Acquiring new customers is often expensive, hence it is important that you make sure to attract the once that come back for more. Since being such an important metric, Engage will measure the impact that customers get from running with our service. This is done by comparing the repurchase rate of visitors interacting with the recommendations to the overall repurchase rate. If a higher repurchase rate is seen from customer interacting with the recommendations the conclusion is that people revisiting like the recommendations they get and tends to add those products to their cart.
AOV is a key performance indicator that online businesses measure to understand their customers’ purchasing habits. Like other key metrics, AOV can be tracked for any time period, but most companies monitor the moving monthly average. Since there is a transaction cost associated with each order, increasing your AOV is a way to drive direct revenue and increase your profits. There are of course multiple strategies that could be implemented to increase the AOV and running with product recommendations from Engage is one of them. To monitor the performance of the recommendations an AOV impact metric is available that compares the AOV from orders with product recommendation interaction to the overall AOV.

We introduced a new pricing model on December 1st, 2022. Customers that subscribed prior to this change will continue to run on the plan they signup for, but can no longer make changes to that plan. If you are currently on one of the legacy plans you can leave it running for as long as you want, or cancel it and start one of the new plans. You may however not switch back to the legacy plans once canceled.
Our Shopify users are billed through Shopify and uses the plans available there. Because of this, the standard billing page in Engage is not available for Shopify users. If you are a Shopify user you can manage plans and billing within Shopify.
